Centre Should Let J&K Govt Work Freely: Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti, President of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the central government to refrain from interfering in Jammu and Kashmir's newly elected government. After a decisive verdict in the state polls, she stressed that the Centre should respect the people's mandate and allow the state government to operate freely without undue interference.

Mufti emphasized that her party, while in the opposition, will play a constructive role and focus on holding the government accountable for its actions. "We will be a responsible opposition, ensuring the people's voices are heard, and will work for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir," she said in a press briefing.

She also highlighted the importance of restoring trust between the Centre and the state, warning that continued meddling could harm the democratic process. "The people have spoken through their vote. It is now time to let democracy flourish without unnecessary control," Mufti added.

The PDP leader further expressed her concerns over the abrogation of Article 370, reiterating her party’s commitment to seeking its restoration through peaceful and democratic means.

This statement comes at a time when political observers are keenly watching how the Centre will engage with the new government in Jammu and Kashmir, given the region's sensitive political climate.
