Not pulling any punches, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has expressed what he feels is a valid criticism of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi. Says Hazare, "Kejriwal, once upon a time, did a great job, but the people taught him a lesson once he came to power and allowed liquor stores to take center stage."
Anna Hazare said: "The person who once led the fight against corruption has now adopted policies that harm society. If public service means harming people, it will be sure to provoke a response."
The new liquor policy of the Arvind Kejriwal government has ignited considerable controversy. Many are already speaking against it, claiming it has negative implications for families and society. Though the AAP government offered it as a revenue-enhancing strategy, the backlash from the citizens clearly shows they are not in support of it.
Anna Hazare has a very close relationship with Arvind Kejriwal. The two worked together in the Jan Lokpal movement aimed at tackling the issue of corruption. However, since Kejriwal entered politics, Hazare has been vocal in attacking Kejriwal's policy.
This recent statement once again confirms that Hazare is deeply dissatisfied with current Kejriwal policies. For him, public welfare is not just about launching new projects; it is the making of decisions for the true benefit of society.
