A farmer training programme was organized on 11 March 2026 at Chowhatta village under Labpur Block as part of the TSP ICAR–ICOR funded project. The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about crop diversification, with a special focus on the cultivation of oilseed crops.
The session was conducted by scientists from Palli Siksha Bhavana, Visva-Bharati. Dr. Mahua Banerjee Maiti from the Department of Agronomy, Dr. Monojit Chowdhury from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, and Palash Ankure from Rathindra Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) delivered detailed lectures on the improved package of practices for sesame cultivation.
The programme was also attended by Mr. Kajol Kumar Saha, Assistant Director of Agriculture (ADA), Labpur, who informed the farmers about various government schemes and support programmes available for improving oilseed cultivation.
Approximately 60 farmers, mostly belonging to Scheduled Tribe communities from nearby villages, participated in the training programme. During the event, vermicompost and seeds of improved crop varieties were distributed among the farmers to support better agricultural practices.
The experts also discussed several important topics including farm mechanisation, pest and disease management, weed control, and the preparation and use of bio-inputs. Farmers actively interacted with the scientists, shared their field-level challenges, and sought solutions.
The participants expressed satisfaction after attending the informative programme and were pleased to receive useful agricultural inputs and guidance.
The training programme was jointly organized by Palli Siksha Bhavana and Rathindra KVK, with cooperation from Swabhiman Educational Cultural Foundation, Birbhum.
