The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, on Friday interacted with 29 probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySsP) of the 2024 batch undergoing practical training across districts of the Kashmir Zone. The session, held at the Police Control Room Kashmir, was attended by senior officers including the DIG Central Kashmir Range and SSP PCR Kashmir.
Welcoming the probationers, IGP Birdi congratulated them on joining the police service and underscored the importance of integrity, fairness, accountability, and discipline in all police actions. He emphasized that officers should approach their duties with professionalism, impartiality, and adherence to ethical standards.
During the interaction, the IGP highlighted the responsibilities of DySsPs in operations, investigations, law and order, and administrative supervision. He stressed the need for sound decision-making, leadership, and continuous learning during the early years of service. Officers were advised to conduct thorough, outcome-oriented investigations while following procedural requirements under laws such as the UAPA and NDPS Act.
IGP Birdi encouraged the probationers to develop investigative and operational skills, maintain knowledge of criminal laws, and effectively use technology in policing. Proper documentation, FIR drafting, police station management, and adherence to police rules were also emphasized.
The IGP also highlighted the value of public engagement, urging officers to adopt a problem-solving approach, balance compassion with firmness, and use social media responsibly. Professional conduct, discipline, supervision of subordinates, ethical behavior, and interpersonal skills were reinforced as essential qualities for effective policing.
The programme concluded with the probationary officers reaffirming their commitment to serve with dedication, integrity, and responsibility, upholding the values and traditions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
