NEW DELHI: In a significant step toward enhancing strategic cooperation, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh is scheduled to hold talks with the Vice President of Brazil, Mr Geraldo Alckmin, in New Delhi on October 15, 2025. The Defence Minister of Brazil, Mr José Múcio Monteiro Filho, will also join the discussions, underscoring the growing momentum in India-Brazil defence relations.

The high-level meeting aims to review the full spectrum of bilateral ties in the defence sector and explore new areas of collaboration in military cooperation, technology exchange, and defence production. The interaction reflects the deepening engagement between the two major democracies and emerging economies of the Global South.

Focus on Defence Industrial Cooperation

Both sides are expected to deliberate on expanding defence industrial partnerships, focusing on co-production, joint ventures, and technology sharing. India’s emphasis on its ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative aligns closely with Brazil’s efforts to modernise its defence manufacturing ecosystem. The meeting may pave the way for new agreements between Indian public and private defence firms and Brazilian counterparts.

Military-to-Military Collaboration

The discussions are also likely to cover enhanced military-to-military cooperation, including joint exercises, training programmes, and capacity-building initiatives. India and Brazil have previously collaborated through multilateral platforms such as BRICS, IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa), and the United Nations Peacekeeping operations. The forthcoming talks are expected to reinforce this cooperation at the bilateral level, particularly in maritime security, counterterrorism, and cyber defence.

Shared Vision for the Global South

The visit comes at a time when both India and Brazil are strengthening their strategic roles on the international stage. As major partners in BRICS, the two nations share a vision for promoting multipolarity, South-South cooperation, and equitable global governance. Defence diplomacy has emerged as a vital component of this relationship, supporting peace and stability in their respective regions.

Expanding Economic and Strategic Engagement Beyond defence, the talks are expected to touch upon wider strategic and economic issues. With growing trade and investment flows, Brazil remains India’s key partner in Latin America. Enhanced defence cooperation could open new opportunities for joint research, innovation, and supply chain diversification in critical technologies.

The meeting between Shri Rajnath Singh, Mr Geraldo Alckmin, and Mr José Múcio Monteiro Filho is anticipated to mark a new chapter in India-Brazil defence relations, reinforcing trust, technology collaboration, and shared global aspirations.
