IPPB and EPFO Partner to Offer Doorstep Digital Life Certificates

New Delhi: The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), a government-owned entity under the Department of Posts, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to provide doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services for pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS-95).

The MoU was exchanged between R. Viswesvaran, Managing Director and CEO of IPPB, and Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Central Provident Fund Commissioner of EPFO, during the 73rd Foundation Day of EPFO. The event was attended by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, as Chief Guest, along with senior officials and members of the Central Board of Trustees.

Under this collaboration, IPPB will utilise its vast postal network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and more than three lakh postal service providers, including postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks, equipped with digital devices to help pensioners submit their life certificates from home. Using face authentication and biometric verification, the process will eliminate the need for pensioners to visit banks or EPFO offices. The EPFO will bear all costs, making the service free for pensioners.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr Viswesvaran said, “This collaboration reinforces IPPB’s mission to bring essential financial and citizen services to every doorstep in India. With our technology-enabled postal network and trusted last-mile reach, EPFO pensioners, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, will be able to complete their life certificate submission seamlessly, with dignity and convenience.”

He added that the initiative aligns with the government’s ‘Digital India’ and ‘Ease of Living’ vision, ensuring inclusive service delivery for senior citizens.

The IPPB first introduced the doorstep Digital Life Certificate service in 2020, using Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication for generating Jeevan Pramaan certificates. Pensioners can contact their local postman or visit the nearest post office, provide Aadhaar and pension details, and authenticate through biometric or facial recognition. A confirmation SMS is sent once the certificate is successfully generated, and it can be viewed online the next day.

The collaboration marks another step towards expanding digital and accessible banking and citizen services across India.
