New Delhi: Union Minister and West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and stated that the citizens like the TMC chief attempt to disintegrate India.

"People like Mamata Banerjee attempt to disintegrate India. Because of the Waqf Act that has been there till now, Hindus and Muslims are at loggerheads at many places in India.People like Mamata Banerjee practice politics of disintegration and through appeasement politics they remain in power. They do not care about the country. If she has to extend her hand of friendship to Pakistan or Bangladesh in order to remain in power, Mamata Banerjee will not hesitate. She craves power," Majumdar added.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samik Bhattacharya lashed out against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and stated that the latter wants to divide people on religious grounds.

"Mamata Banerjee's politics are polarizing. She desires to divide on religious grounds. If she remains in power for any longer, then West Bengal will turn into West Bangladesh. The majority community of India and West Bengal united, and now Mamata's exit is confirmed. Mamata Banerjee won't be able to introduce any bill to Parliament. She won't be able to get into politics after two years," Bhattacharya said.

BJP MP Ravi Kishan stated that Mamata Banerjee is losing ground in West Bengal.

"Mamata Banerjee is losing ground in her state before the coming elections. She should pay attention to that first. This bill is already passed. Poor Muslims are jubilant. Sweets were distributed in Gorakhpur as the celebrations broke out," Kishan added.

Union Minister SP Singh Baghel stated the Bill is for the betterment of common Muslims.

"Following the long debates on the Waqf Bill, particularly in the wake of Amit Shah's and Kiren Rijiju's statements, all the apprehensions, hearsay and misunderstandings created by so-called secular leaders and Muslim leaders have been eliminated. The Bill is in the interest of common Muslims," Baghel asserted.

Last time, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the BJP for moving the Waqf Amendment Bill with an agenda to "split the nation" and vowed to turn it upside down through a proposed amendment in case a fresh government assumes charge at the Centre.

Replying to a press meet in Nabanna, CM Mamata Banerjee said, "This has been done politically, deliberately, to polarize the country. But they will disappear one day, and there will be the other Government. Then at that time you need to keep in mind that there will be another amendment, and it will pass through Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha."

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) leader Sonia Gandhi also condemned the BJP government after the bill was approved in the Lok Sabha. It was a "brazen assault" on the Constitution, she said, and the BJP was keeping society in a position of "permanent polarization."

"Yesterday, the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, was approved in the Lok Sabha, and today it will be taken up in the Rajya Sabha. The bill was effectively bulldozed through. Our party's stand is clear. The Bill is a blatant attack on the Constitution itself. It is very much a part of the BJP's conscious strategy to keep our society in a state of permanent polarization," Sonia Gandhi said.

Lok Sabha, which commenced discussion on the Waqf (Amendment Bill) on Wednesday, approved it after midnight following a marathon debate.

The government tabled the amended bill following the inclusion of the suggestions made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the bill tabled in August last year. The bill intends to modify the Act of 1995 and enhance the administration and management of the waqf properties in India.

The Bill is meant to bridge the deficiencies of the earlier act and increase the efficiency of Waqf boards by making the process of registration more efficient and improving the use of technology in dealing with waqf records.
