Jammu and Kashmir saw a huge success of the Agnipath scheme as thousands of young candidates from age 18 to 21 showed up for the rally in Samba.

Aspiring young men came in prepared for the Agnipath rally with a will to serve the Indian army and the nation. An applicant Rohit Singh said, “Those that have been ready properly, they’ve been chosen. I need to serve the nation, so I’m selecting the military,”.

On June 14, the Union Cabinet authorised the "Agnipath" recruiting programme for Indian youth to join the three services of the Armed Forces. The youth chosen under this programme would be referred to as "Agniveers."

A nationwide, merit-based recruiting programme called "Agnipath" is used to sign up soldiers, pilots, and sailors. The programme offers young people the chance to join the military forces' regular cadre. All individuals hired under the "Agnipath" programme will be referred to as "Agniveers."

In September, the Indian Army organised a two-month pre-training programme for young people living in villages along the Line of Control (LOC) in the Baramulla district of Kashmir in preparation for enlisting in the Army under the Agnipath programme.
