On Wednesday, after two years gap, the Amarnath yatra commenced and pilgrims embarked on the holy pilgrimage from Yatri Niwas base camp, Bhagwati Nagar Jammu and Jammu & Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha was present there to flag off the pilgrimage.

The ‘Amarnath Yatris’ will embark on a journey to a holy site for Hindus in Kashmir’s Pahalgam area.

Lt Guv Sinha took to Twitter to extend his wishes to the ‘yatris’, “Flagged off the first batch of pilgrims, as they set off to Shri Amarnath Ji Cave Shrine from Jammu base camp. Prayed for the peace, prosperity, and a safe spiritual journey for pilgrims.”

The first batch of the pilgrims left the initial base camp amid beefed-up security. Paramilitary personnel accompanied them in several security vehicles.

The Amarnath Yatra resumed after a two years gap. In the last two years, the pilgrimage was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Yatra will last for 43 days and will conclude on August 11.
