CHANDIGARH-SHIMLA HIGHWAY REOPENS FOR LIGHT VEHICLES AFTER 5-DAY CLOSURE

Landslide Cleared, Chandigarh-Shimla Highway Opens for Light Vehicles

The Chandigarh-Shimla highway reopened for light vehicles on August 8, 2023, after being closed for five days due to a landslide at Datyar, near Parwanoo. The landslide occurred on August 3, 2023, and heavy rains and landslides had made it difficult to clear the debris. However, the highway has now been cleared and light vehicles are allowed to ply on it. Heavy vehicles will still be diverted to alternative routes.

The reopening of the highway is welcome news for motorists, who have been stranded in Chandigarh and Shimla for the past five days. The highway is a major route between the two cities, and its closure had caused significant inconvenience to commuters.

Motorists who are planning to drive on the Chandigarh-Shimla highway are advised to drive carefully, as the weather conditions may still be wet and slippery. :

What can the motorists and the drivers do to drive safely on the highway?

1) Drive slowly and carefully, especially in wet conditions.

2) Be aware of the road conditions and be prepared to stop if necessary.

3) Allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.

4) Use your headlights in low visibility conditions.

 5) Be patient and don't tailgate.

The highway authorities have assured motorists that they are working to clear the remaining debris and reopen the highway to all vehicles as soon as possible. In the meantime, motorists are advised to use alternative routes if possible.
