In response to rising CNG costs in the nation's capital, the Delhi government has reportedly approved an increase in auto-rickshaw and taxi fares, according to an official statement on Friday.

The metre down charge (minimum fare) for the first 1.5 kilometres of auto-rickshaw travel has increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30, and the per kilometre charge following metre down has increased from Rs 9.50 to Rs 11. These changes are in accordance with the updated fares.

The per-kilometer fee for taxis has increased from Rs. 14 to Rs. 17, and from Rs. 16 to Rs. 20, depending on whether the vehicle is air-conditioned or not.

The latest price adjustment for auto-rickshaws took place in 2020, whereas the last one for taxis, including black-and-yellow, economy, and premium taxis, took place nine years earlier, in 2013.

The auto-rickshaw and taxi associations and unions had made numerous representations to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot regarding the problem of fare hikes.
