Delhi recorded a poor 8.10% voter turnout as of 9 am in the single phase Delhi assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India.
North East district of Delhi has the highest turnout of 10.70% followed by South West 9.34%.
New Delhi district has the lowest turnout of 6.51%.
As per ECI, Central 6.67%, East 8.21%, North 7.12%, North West 7.66%, Shahdara 8.92%, South 8.43%, South East 8.36% and West 6.76%.
Milkipur assembly constituency has 13.34% turnout in bye-assembly elections. Erode (East) constituency of Tamil Nadu has 10.95% turnout as of 9 am in bypolls.
Polling for 70 assembly seats of Delhi and bypolls for two seats, one each of Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh began today morning. Voting started at 7.00 am.
Voting is being held in all seats under tight security.
In Delhi, prominent seats include New Delhi, Jangpura, Kalkaji, Ohkla, Mustafabad, Bijwasan, Kasturba Nagar, Greater Kailash, Patparganj etc.
These are high stakes for AAP, BJP and Congress as AAP is looking to retain power for third term while BJP is looking to come back to power after almost 27 years.
Congress which ruled the state for 15 years is struggling to win even one seat since 2015 and 2020 elections. In this election they are hoping to come back.
AAP which has more than 60 seats of the 70 seat assembly is seeking re-election based on their previous terms performance.
New Delhi seat has a three way contest with former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit (son of former CM Sheila Dikshit).Jangpura has AAP’s Manish Sisodia, Congress’s Farhad Suri and BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah in the fray.
Total 699 candidates are in the contest for 70 assembly seats of Delhi.
Meanwhile in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur, the fate of candidates will be decided by 3,70,829 SC voters of the constituency but the main contest is expected to be between Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad and BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan.
Counting will be on February 8.
