A landslide hit the Anni area of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, August 24, 2023, reducing eight buildings to rubble. There were no casualties as the buildings had been evacuated earlier after they developed cracks.

The landslide occurred at around 11:30 AM local time. The buildings that collapsed were all multi-storey structures that housed shops, banks, and other commercial establishments. The SDM of Anni, Naresh Verma, said that the buildings had been declared unsafe by the district administration after they developed cracks following incessant rain in the second week of July. The occupants had vacated the buildings last week.

The landslide also damaged two other buildings nearby. Verma said that the loss to property is being assessed. He added that the administration is taking steps to prevent further landslides in the area.

This is the latest in a series of landslides that have hit Himachal Pradesh in recent weeks. The state has been experiencing heavy rainfall since the beginning of the monsoon season, and the landslides have been caused by the loosening of soil and rocks due to the rains.

The state government has urged people to be cautious and to avoid traveling to areas that are prone to landslides. It has also set up relief camps for those who have been displaced by the landslides.

The landslides have caused widespread damage in Himachal Pradesh. In addition to the loss of property, they have also disrupted transportation and communication networks. The state government is working to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

The landslide occurred in a residential area near the Anni bus stand. The buildings that collapsed were all multi-storey structures that were built in the 1980s. The landslide was caused by the loosening of soil and rocks due to the heavy rains. The administration is working to prevent further landslides by clearing debris and strengthening the slopes in the area. The state government has also announced compensation for those who have lost their homes or businesses in the landslide.

The landslide is a reminder of the dangers of living in landslide-prone areas. It is important to be aware of the risks and to take precautions to stay safe. If you live in an area that is prone to landslides, you should:

1) Be familiar with the warning signs of a landslide, such as cracks in the ground, trees leaning at an angle, and water seeping from the ground.

2) Have a plan in place in case of a landslide, such as knowing where to go and what to do.

3) Stay informed about the latest weather conditions and warnings.
