The monsoon has finally arrived on the Indian subcontinent. Tomorrow, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange signal for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

An IMD spokeswoman cautioned people on Sunday to be cautious when heading out on Monday. “The city may receive around 130 mm of rain over the next two or three days,” the official said. “While this is not alarming by Mumbai standards, it could cause waterlogging.”

Mumbai is known for waterlogging and deluging during Monsoons. The official date for Monsoon onset in Mumbai is June 11, but there only have been light and intermittent rains in Mumbai in the last few days, according to reports.

Mumbai has received 16.2 mm of rain so far, according to IMD, while Thane and Palghar have received 1.3 mm and 7.77 mm of rain, respectively.

Mumbai’s air quality has improved to a “excellent” level as a result of the recent rain. On Monday morning, the total AQI was 29, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
