Almost 4 out of 5 (78%) Indians want to prioritize family time with spouse, children and parents over career growth in 2025, says report on Wednesday.A report by Indeed on Wednesday explores employee aspirations for 2025 across key Asia Pacific markets including India, Singapore, Australia and Japan.

It shows a growing emphasis on work-life harmony which is more than just shorter working hours. Employees want less stress and more focus on mental well-being while being in well paid jobs that they love and have flexibility for family and personal interests.

“We are seeing a change in what matters to Indian workers,” said Rachael Townsley, Marketing Director (Australia, India and Singapore) at Indeed.

“More and more people are telling us they want to find a better balance between work and life. While more money is important, the dream career for most isn’t about climbing the corporate ladder -- it’s about feeling secure, being paid fairly and having benefits that actually make a difference. It’s a reminder that creating workplaces where people feel supported in both their work and personal life isn’t a nice to have -- it’s a must have to help people thrive,” Townsley said.

Also, 27 per cent of Indian employees have increasing their earning capacity as their top resolution for 2025, according to the report. Many employees are feeling the pinch as inflation is outpacing salary growth and respondents have not having a competitive salary as the biggest obstacle.

In cities like Delhi and Mumbai, the rising cost of living has pushed a large chunk of the workforce to look for additional sources of income. In fact, 41% of the workforce is already exploring or engaged in side hustles to maintain financial stability and offset the increasing expenses.

Interestingly, despite wanting to earn more, many employees are not keen on leadership roles. Instead, the dream career for Indian employees in 2025 is stability, fair pay and good benefits.

Along with these changing priorities, Indian employees are optimistic about the job market. 55% of them are confident about growth in new sectors and industries. To prepare for this, employees are building diverse skill sets and are flexible and open to new job opportunities or relocations.

Data: 2,507 India, 1,211 Singapore, 1,206 Australia, 1,202 Japan.
