On the occasion of her passing, the Congress Chief paid tribute to the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi said he was keeping her love and principles in his heart and would not let the India she gave her life for fall apart.

At the Shakti Sthal monument for Indira Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Party Chief Sonia Gandhi, and other top party figures presented floral tributes to the late Prime Minister.

"My tributes to the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi ji, on her martyrdom day. Be it agriculture, economy or military power, Indira ji's contribution in making India a strong nation is incomparable," Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.

In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, "Grandmother, I am carrying both your love and values in my heart. I will not allow the India for which you have sacrificed your life to fall apart."

The Congress said in a tweet from its official Twitter account that Indira Gandhi guided the country through its highs and lows, from the liberation of Bangladesh to the start of the Green Revolution.

On this day in 1984, two of the then-prime leader Indira Gandhi's personal security guards killed her.
