To mark Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s 250th birth anniversary, Centre to issue Rs 250 coin

The 250-denomination coin will be composed of 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper and 5 per cent nickel and zinc and will have a diameter of 44 millimetres. Coming to the weight, the coin will weigh around 35 grams

To celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the government of India will issue a coin of Rs 250. 


Ministry of Finance issued a notification saying that the Centre has already placed the order for coins of particular dimensions. 


The 250-denomination coin will be composed of 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper and 5 per cent nickel and zinc and will have a diameter of 44 millimetres. Coming to the weight, the coin will weigh around 35 grams.



Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar will be designed on the face of the coin, and ‘Satyamev Jayete’ will be written in the centre below the word ‘Bharat’ written in Hindi. On the right side, ‘India’ will be written in English.


The other face of the coin bear the image of Raja Ram Mohan Roy and ‘250th Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy’ will be inscribed under the social reformer’s image.
