Today, at least 9,200 Congress Party delegates will choose between Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge, two parliamentarians, to fill the position for congress party president.

The voting will take place on Monday from 10 am to 4 pm, and the results will be announced on October 19.

It is not the first time a non-Gandhi leader has run for the party presidency following independence; Jitendra Prasad challenged Sonia Gandhi for the position roughly 22 years ago, but Sonia won and held the party's leadership for 20 years.

Sonia Gandhi has been the party's president for the longest time, having served in that capacity from 1998 to 2017 and since 2019.

No Gandhi family member is running for president this time.

Elections for the party's President will be held for the sixth time in its roughly 137-year history. Rahul Gandhi won election as president in 2017 without facing any opposition.

The voting facilities will be available at the party's central headquarters at 24 Akbar Road in addition to the Congress headquarters in the states.

Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi, and other top leaders will cast their votes in the voting booth at the Congress headquarters.

Rahul Gandhi and about 40 other Bharat Jodo Yatra participants will be able to vote right there at the camp.

At the Sanganakallu campsite in Bellary, a polling place is now being put up.

The two candidates, Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor, will vote in the headquarters of their respective states, Trivendram and Bengaluru.

The ballot boxes from every state will be sent back to Delhi after voting, and on October 19 the results will be declared.

Delegates in Delhi may vote if they have received prior permission from the Central Election Authority to do so in Delhi instead of their home state.
