On Wednesday, Kerala Assembly was derailed by Congress-led United Democratic Front opposition, demanding the Culture and Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian’s resignation over his alleged anti-constitutional comment.

The protest in the Assembly kicked off soon after Speaker M B Rajesh signaled the start of Question Hour. The placards were raised by the UDF legislators and condemned Cherian’s “anti-constitutional” comment. Reportedly, the opposition is also seeking legal opinion.

The senior CPI(M) leader sparked a storm after he, on Monday, said that the Constitution of India advocates the exploitation of common citizens.

Cherian criticized the Indian Constitution by saying, “A beautiful Constitution has been written in the country. I would say the Constitution has been written in such a manner as to ensure that the maximum number of people are looted. What the British prepared, Indians penned down. Over the last 75 years that it has been implemented, I would say this is a constitution that ensures the exploitation of the maximum number of people in the country.”

Opposition leader VD Satheesan demanded the Kerela CM Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) should clear that air and state whether they endorse the Cherian’s opinion about the Constitution. He also slammed Cherian by saying that he should go back to his root, RSS, and become a central minister.
