Former U.S. President Joe Biden launched one of his sharpest attacks yet on President Donald Trump, calling him "a loser" and accusing his administration of unprecedented corruption during a speech at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Hanover, Maryland.
Speaking at the Maryland Democratic Party's "Fight Back & Win" gala, Biden criticised several of Trump's recent projects in Washington, including renovations to the White House, changes to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the controversial refurbishment of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He described them as "vanity projects" that reflected "narcissism and incompetence."
"It's the corruption, the corruption, the brazen, blatant corruption. Corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration," Biden told the crowd, drawing loud applause from supporters.
The former president also criticised Trump's plans to compensate individuals involved in the January 6 United States Capitol attack, arguing that those convicted over the riot "deserve to be put in jail for a long, long time."
Biden's remarks came exactly two years after his difficult debate performance against Trump in 2024, which eventually led him to withdraw from the presidential race and endorse former Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump later returned to the White House after winning the election.
The speech marked one of Biden's most direct and combative public appearances since leaving office, as Democrats prepare for the upcoming midterm elections and seek to regain control of Congress.
