US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described India as a “great partner” and said the United States is prepared to further expand energy exports to India as both countries continue strengthening strategic and economic ties.
Speaking during discussions on bilateral cooperation, Rubio said energy partnership remains one of the key pillars of the growing relationship between Washington and New Delhi. He noted that the US is willing to increase exports of crude oil, liquefied natural gas and other energy resources to help support India’s rapidly growing economy and rising energy demands.
Rubio said India plays an important role in maintaining stability and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region. He also highlighted cooperation between the two countries in areas such as technology, defence, trade and clean energy initiatives.
The statement comes at a time when India has been diversifying its energy imports to ensure long-term energy security. Over the past few years, the United States has emerged as one of India’s major suppliers of crude oil and LNG, especially after global energy markets experienced disruptions following geopolitical tensions and conflicts.
Officials from both countries have repeatedly stressed the importance of strengthening energy cooperation as part of their broader strategic partnership. The US has also encouraged India to invest more in renewable energy and clean technology while maintaining stable conventional energy supplies.
Rubio added that expanding energy trade would benefit both nations economically and help create a more resilient global supply chain. He said the United States values its partnership with India and remains committed to supporting the country’s development and economic growth.
India and the US have significantly deepened bilateral ties over the last decade, with cooperation increasing in defence, semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, climate policy and maritime security. Energy trade has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the relationship.
Experts believe increased US energy exports to India could help reduce supply risks, improve market stability and strengthen strategic cooperation between the two democracies amid changing global geopolitical dynamics.
The remarks are also being viewed as part of Washington’s broader effort to reinforce partnerships in Asia and strengthen economic engagement with India, which is now one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
