Iran Rejects US Conditions; Trump Extends Ceasefire, Maintains Blockade

Iran has rejected the United States’ conditions for negotiations, even as US President Donald Trump unilaterally extended the ongoing ceasefire, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

The development comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic efforts struggling to gain momentum. IRIB reported that Iran категорically dismissed the US terms for talks, signalling its unwillingness to engage under what it views as pressure or one-sided demands.

According to the report, Trump decided to extend the ceasefire despite the lack of agreement, saying the move was intended to give Iran more time to come forward with a unified proposal for negotiations. The extension was reportedly made following requests from Pakistan’s leadership, which has been acting as a mediator in the crisis.

However, even as the ceasefire remains in place, the United States has continued its naval blockade, maintaining military pressure on Iran. Trump made it clear that while active hostilities are paused, US forces remain on standby and the blockade will continue until talks progress or a resolution is reached.

The situation reflects a fragile standoff. Iran has repeatedly insisted that it will not negotiate under threats, arguing that ongoing military and economic pressure—including the blockade—undermines trust and violates the spirit of any ceasefire.

On the other hand, the US administration has maintained that its strategy is aimed at pushing Iran toward a comprehensive agreement, particularly concerning its nuclear programme and regional activities. Washington has also emphasised that the ceasefire extension is a window for diplomacy rather than a sign of concession.

Efforts to restart formal talks have faced setbacks, with planned diplomatic engagements reportedly delayed due to Iran’s refusal to accept the current terms. Analysts suggest that both sides remain far apart on key issues, including sanctions relief, security guarantees, and control over strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz.

As tensions persist, the continuation of the ceasefire offers temporary relief but little clarity on a long-term resolution. With both nations holding firm to their positions, the path to meaningful negotiations remains uncertain, raising concerns about potential escalation if diplomacy fails.
