Iran has warned that any fresh aggression will face a “crushing response” as tensions with the United States rise again around the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian military spokesperson Ibrahim al-Fiqar said any violation of the ceasefire would breach the Islamabad Understanding and could halt all ongoing diplomatic tracks. He also said Iran would regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and deal more firmly with vessels it considers violators.
The warning came after the US carried out strikes on Iranian missile, drone and radar sites, accusing Tehran of violating the ceasefire and threatening commercial shipping. Iran later claimed missile and drone attacks on US-linked military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait, while both Gulf countries condemned the strikes.
The Strait of Hormuz remains the centre of the crisis, as it is one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Any prolonged disruption there could sharply increase fears over global energy supplies.
US President Donald Trump has also warned Iran against further violations, raising fears that the fragile ceasefire could collapse if both sides continue retaliatory attacks.
