IRGC Warns of 'Harsh Response' Over Strait of Hormuz

Tensions in the Middle East escalated further on Thursday after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a strong warning to countries supporting the United States, saying they could face a "harsh response" if they continue to assist Washington in military actions against Iran. The statement comes amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US, which has intensified in recent weeks with missile strikes, naval tensions, and growing concerns over regional security.
In its statement, the IRGC declared that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran's control, saying, "The Strait of Hormuz is our land," and that its naval forces have full authority over the strategic waterway. The group warned that "foreign forces" would not be allowed to interfere in the area, describing the presence of outside militaries as unacceptable. It also claimed that two oil tankers attempting to pass through what it described as an unsafe route had turned back after encountering Iranian naval forces.
The IRGC further warned countries that are providing military or logistical support to the United States, saying they should "correct their behaviour" or risk facing retaliation. While the statement did not name specific nations, it suggested that any country helping US operations against Iran could become a target of Iranian action.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes, with a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the narrow waterway each day. Any disruption in the region has the potential to affect international energy markets, shipping costs, and global trade. Recent military exchanges have already increased concerns among shipping companies and energy traders over the safety of vessels operating in the Gulf.
The latest warning follows renewed US military strikes on Iranian targets and continued missile exchanges between the two sides. Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions have so far failed to produce a breakthrough, while several countries in the region remain on high alert over the possibility of a broader conflict. Analysts say the situation around the Strait of Hormuz will remain a key flashpoint as both Iran and the United States continue to exchange threats and military actions.
