US President Donald Trump has said America may never know who was responsible for the deadly missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, southern Iran, that killed more than 175 children and teachers on February 28, the first day of the Iran war.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said missiles were “flying all over the place” and suggested that the attack may remain unresolved. He said he had seen nothing that convinced him the missile was American, though he did not completely rule it out.
Reuters earlier reported that an initial internal US military investigation found American forces were likely responsible for the strike. The Pentagon has since escalated the probe but has not publicly confirmed any preliminary finding.
The attack triggered global outrage, with the United Nations human rights office calling it “absolutely horrific.” Under international humanitarian law, deliberate attacks on schools are considered war crimes, though US officials have insisted Washington would never intentionally target a school.
Trump had initially blamed Iran for the attack but later softened his position, saying he did not have enough information and would accept the outcome of the ongoing investigation. His latest remarks have renewed questions over accountability, transparency and the conduct of the war.
