The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it has completed a 12th consecutive night of airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, marking the latest escalation in the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran. The overnight operation reportedly focused on missile and drone storage sites, maritime capabilities, coastal surveillance systems and air defence positions across southern Iran.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes are aimed at degrading Iran's ability to threaten international shipping and U.S. forces operating in the Middle East. U.S. officials said the campaign is part of a sustained military effort authorized by President Donald Trump following recent attacks attributed to Iranian-backed forces. Specific locations and the extent of damage from the latest operation were not immediately disclosed.
Iran has strongly condemned the continued strikes, warning that any attack on its military or critical infrastructure would draw a "powerful and decisive" response. Iranian officials have accused the United States of escalating regional instability and vowed to defend the country's sovereignty.
The conflict has also heightened tensions across the wider Middle East. Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, while concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz have pushed global oil prices higher and prompted increased military deployments in the region.
Despite the intensifying military campaign, U.S. officials maintain that the objective is to weaken Iran's military capabilities and protect regional stability rather than broaden the conflict.
