The United States military has carried out another “defensive” strike against Iranian targets, according to U.S. officials, in a continued escalation of hostilities between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing unrest in the Gulf region.
According to multiple international reports, the latest operation involved U.S. forces striking a military-related site in southern Iran after detecting what they described as imminent threats from Iranian drones and maritime units. The strike reportedly targeted a drone control facility in the Bandar Abbas region, a strategically important port near the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the action was taken to protect American personnel and allied shipping interests in the region. Officials claimed Iranian forces had launched or prepared one-way attack drones and other systems capable of targeting U.S. assets and commercial vessels operating in international waters.
The operation also included the interception and destruction of several Iranian drones, according to U.S. defense sources cited in international media reports. The military described the strikes as “limited” and “defensive in nature,” stressing that they were not intended to expand the conflict but to deter further attacks.
Iranian state media, however, presented a different account, saying the strikes were part of ongoing U.S. aggression in the region. Iranian officials warned that continued attacks would trigger stronger retaliation, raising fears of a wider regional escalation.
The incident comes at a time of fragile diplomacy and intermittent ceasefire efforts aimed at reducing tensions after months of military exchanges in the Gulf. Despite ongoing talks involving regional mediators, both sides have continued to accuse each other of violating truce understandings.
Security experts warn that repeated strikes near the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global oil shipping route—could have serious implications for international energy markets. Any disruption in the area is likely to increase shipping risks and contribute to volatility in global oil prices.
So far, there has been no independent confirmation of casualties or the full extent of damage from the latest strike. The situation remains fluid, with both U.S. and Iranian forces on heightened alert amid fears of further escalation in the coming days.
