The United States and Iran are reportedly moving closer to finalising a major diplomatic agreement aimed at easing tensions and ending months of instability in West Asia. According to multiple media reports, negotiations between Washington and Tehran have entered the final stage, with officials working on the last draft of the proposed deal.
Saudi state media outlet Al Arabiya reported that both countries are putting the finishing touches on the agreement following intensified backchannel diplomacy and mediation efforts involving regional players, including Pakistan. A fresh round of talks is expected to take place in Islamabad after the Hajj season, signalling continued diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
Reports suggest the proposed agreement is aimed at achieving a broader resolution to ongoing hostilities in the Gulf region and restoring stability in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The waterway has remained at the centre of tensions due to disruptions in maritime traffic and fears of escalation affecting global oil supplies.
US President Donald Trump confirmed that negotiations with Iran are in their “final stages” and expressed cautious optimism about reaching a breakthrough. However, he also warned that Washington remains prepared for military action if talks collapse. His comments reportedly caused global oil prices to decline sharply amid hopes of reduced regional tensions.
According to reports, the draft framework may include a temporary halt to Iran’s uranium enrichment activities, gradual lifting of US sanctions, release of frozen Iranian funds and restoration of maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. However, several key issues, especially the duration and scope of Iran’s nuclear restrictions, are still under negotiation.
Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the process. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently met senior Iranian officials in Tehran to discuss regional security coordination and diplomatic developments linked to the negotiations. Saudi Arabia has also welcomed Washington’s decision to “give diplomacy a chance” and urged Iran to respond positively to peace efforts.
Despite growing optimism, uncertainty remains over whether both sides can fully agree on the final terms. Analysts believe the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the negotiations result in a historic diplomatic breakthrough or return the region to heightened confrontation.
