An Intelligence Bureau officer’s involvement in issuing a fake bomb alert on a flight is a disturbing breach of trust. Such incidents shake the public’s faith in organizations that are supposed to ensure national security. While prank calls and hoaxes often originate from misguided individuals, it is particularly appalling when someone from an elite intelligence agency is responsible.  

The incident raises serious questions about the officer’s motives and the level of accountability within the Intelligence Bureau. Was it a personal vendetta, a lapse in judgment, or a deliberate misuse of authority? Whatever the reason, such behavior is unacceptable and warrants immediate investigation.  

Authorities must ensure that strict disciplinary action is taken, both to uphold institutional integrity and to send a strong message against such misconduct. This is not merely an internal issue but one that affects public safety and the nation’s reputation.  

Furthermore, this event underscores the need for better psychological evaluation and regular monitoring of personnel in sensitive positions. An organization tasked with securing the country cannot afford even a single misstep of this nature.  

While the officer's actions are condemnable, this should not overshadow the IB's larger role in maintaining national security. However, this incident should serve as a wake-up call for systemic reforms. Accountability and transparency are not optional—they are essential. Only then can the public’s trust be restored.
