BRO Revamps Jawahar Tunnel: A New Era for Connectivity  

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has undertaken a major renovation project of the twin-tube Jawahar Tunnel, a key passage linking Jammu to the Kashmir Valley. With the region’s road infrastructure under constant scrutiny, this development is timely, addressing long-standing concerns over safety and maintenance.  

The Jawahar Tunnel, situated in the Pir Panjal Range, is the gateway to the Kashmir Valley. Its significance goes beyond mere transportation; it’s a vital lifeline for the movement of goods, military personnel, and essential services. For years, this critical tunnel has faced the challenges of heavy traffic, harsh weather conditions, and the wear and tear of time.  

The BRO’s intervention comes at a crucial time, with the region seeking to improve connectivity to bolster economic activity and tourism. By renovating both tunnels, the project aims to increase the lifespan of the tunnel, improve its safety features, and expand its capacity to accommodate growing traffic.
