Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, who the top of the town with his Dil-Luminati tour, shared the first look from his upcoming film ‘Punjab ’95’.
He captioned, “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab 95”
In the first pic Diljit Dosanjh is sitting on the floor in a raw and rugged look, in a simple kurta and turban. His bloodied and bruised face says it all.
The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
Another pic gives us a glimpse into Khalra’s personal life, Diljit as Khalra posing with two kids, a heartwarming preview of the activist’s real life.
Jaswant Singh Khalra was the manager of a bank in Amritsar city in Punjab during the militancy period in Punjab. After Operation Blue Star, assassination of Indira Gandhi and 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, the police were given powers to detain anyone for any reason, ostensibly as suspected terrorists.
Police were killing unarmed suspects in fake encounters and burning thousands of dead bodies to cover up the murders. Khalra was investigating four major cases at that time and was collecting evidence and witnesses.
Central Board of Film Certification in India had asked for 120 cuts in the film to the makers. There was no clarity on the release of the film given its sensitive content. But with Diljit’s rise to fame and global attention it seems the film will finally see the light of the day.
