In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closed the seven-year-long investigation into the cheating and corruption case against NDTV's former promoters, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy. The case, filed in 2017, involved allegations of fraudulent transactions and cheating the ICICI Bank to the tune of millions.

The closure report submitted by the CBI in the special court cites insufficient evidence to proceed with charges. The case was built on a complaint filed by a private company accusing the Roys of securing huge loans through deceptive means. However, after a detailed investigation spanning seven years, the CBI found no substantial proof to back these claims.

Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, co-founders of one of India's leading news channels, had consistently denied the accusations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Their legal team has welcomed the CBI's closure report, emphasizing that the couple had always maintained their innocence.

The case attracted considerable media attention due to NDTV's critical stance against the government, with many viewing the investigation as an attempt to suppress press freedom. With the closure of the case, the Roys have emerged legally unscathed, though the saga has left its mark on their professional lives.

This closure comes as a relief to the former promoters and the media industry, marking the end of a protracted legal battle.
