CPM Leader Urges for Restoration of J&K Rights

In a recent statement, a prominent leader from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) stressed the need for immediate restoration of the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, the political and social situation in the region has worsened following the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which stripped the state of its special status.

The leader highlighted that the move to remove Article 370 has not only alienated the people but also left them struggling with limited autonomy. He noted that several political leaders in the region have been detained under preventive laws, leading to a shrinking of democratic spaces.

He further criticized the Union government's handling of the situation, claiming that the narrative of development and security has been used to divert attention from the suppression of dissent and growing discontent among the people.

Calling for a rethink on the policies governing Jammu and Kashmir, he urged the government to restore statehood, hold free and fair elections, and reinstate the rights and privileges that were stripped away. The CPM leader also emphasized that the restoration of these rights would foster a sense of normalcy and trust between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India.

The statement comes amid growing voices from the opposition, demanding greater autonomy and rights for the region’s citizens, making the future of Jammu and Kashmir a hot topic in national politics.
