NEW DELHI: A Class 12 student is behind the last 23 bomb threats sent to various schools in the city, the Delhi Police said on Friday.
The student has confessed to having sent similar emails in the past as well.
This comes after police found that bomb threat emails sent to at least three schools in Delhi were from their own students.
An initial probe by the Delhi Police Special Cell found that two siblings from one of the schools were behind the emails to get their exams postponed.
During counselling, the siblings confessed that they had taken inspiration from earlier bomb threat cases. They were let off with a warning and their parents were informed.
Two more schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar were also targeted by students who sent similar emails.
The bomb threats have thrown school schedules out of gear.
In December last year, several schools had received an email demanding $100,000, saying bombs would explode “within 72 hours”.
The series of incidents began on December 9 when 44 schools received threatening emails, followed by similar emails on December 13 targeting 30 schools and December 14 affecting 8 schools. One of the December 14 emails had mentioned “bomb vests”.
Since May 2024 this year, over 50 bomb threat emails have been reported, targeting not just schools but also hospitals, airports and airline companies in Delhi.
