EAM Jaishankar Reiterates India's Relentless Commitment to Developing Maldives

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar once again stated his country's complete commitment to Maldives' growth during a meet with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid. Jaishankar said that "Maldives are a key partner" for New Delhi under 'Neighbourhood First' and reaffirmed its commitment to helping the island nation grow and enjoy security together.

He underscored the important bilateral initiatives of recent times such as the Greater Malé Connectivity Project, aiming at infrastructural connectivity and water and sanitation projects ongoing in various Maldivian islands, as part of India's broader vision in the 'Security and Growth for All in the Region' or SAGAR framework.

Recently, India has committed a huge amount of financial assistance in the form of a $760 million bailout package to stabilize the Maldivian economy in support of its sustainable development goals. The meeting also focused on strengthening economic ties and stability in the Indian Ocean region.

It underscores this convergence in a common goal of promoting long-term socio-economic development and regional security. Jaishankar assured that India would remain a steadfast supporter of the progress and prosperity of the Maldives over the years to come.

The partnership reflects India's commitment to uplifting its neighbors and promoting regional harmony. Further talks to strengthen bilateral cooperation are expected in the next couple of months.
