EV Revolution Hits 1.94 Million Sales in 2024
India has registered 1.94 million sales in the electric vehicle segment in 2024, according to the latest report. This number says a lot in terms of all that has been done over a relatively short albeit substantial journey that the country has made in sustainable mobility. Experts warn that much has to be done.
Government incentives such as subsidies and tax benefits under schemes like FAME II have helped a lot in driving the adoption of electric vehicles. Given the new fuel price hike and rising environmental consciousness, one can see the waves sweeping one now into the two-wheelers mostly at sales nearly 70 percent in that segment. That's very good, though opportunities for electric buses and commercial vehicles are also being opened with steady growth.
The two crucial factors that will affect the decision of a future buyer are availability of charging stations and the high price of EV compared to their petrol and diesel counterparts, while comparatively easy use of EVs is observed in few rural areas, probably due to ignorance.
Net-zero by 2070 promises very strong support for the case of EV adoption from the government side; still, experts said it will take an ongoing commitment to policy consistency, better battery technology, and ultimately lower affordability to keep the momentum rolling.
