Farmers’ March: Delhi Braces for Gridlock

Delhi-NCR is on edge as thousands of farmers from Punjab march into the region, demanding better Minimum Support Prices and debt waivers. The agitation, which began yesterday, has already caused significant disruption on major highways, with traffic snarls stretching for miles. As the protest intensifies, commuters are bracing for another day of delays.

The farmers, organized under various unions, have vowed to continue their march until their voices are heard. “Our demands are not new. We are fighting for survival,” said Rajbir Singh, a farmer leader. Protesters are camping along key arterial roads, complicating efforts by law enforcement to manage the situation.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid affected routes, but the measures appear insufficient. Metro services remain operational, though stations near protest hotspots are experiencing overcrowding. Essential services, including ambulances, face delays, raising questions about the preparedness of the administration.

While the government has called for dialogue, no significant progress has been reported. Critics argue that such delays in addressing grievances only fuel public discontent. “These protests highlight the neglect of agrarian issues by policymakers. Farmers don’t want to inconvenience the public, but they’re left with no choice,” said political analyst Kavita Rao.

The situation underscores a larger challenge: balancing public convenience with the right to protest. As Delhi-NCR faces a potential gridlock, the nation watches closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. For now, the city waits in tense anticipation.
