Farooq, Tarigami Criticize Fresh L-G Orders Amid J&K Govt Formation

In a sharp rebuke, veteran political leaders Farooq Abdullah and Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami have criticized the latest orders issued by Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor. The directives, they argue, could hamper the process of forming a new government, which is eagerly awaited by the people of the region.

Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, expressed his concerns over the new orders that impact administrative changes and development schemes. He accused the L-G's administration of overstepping its role by making crucial decisions that should be left to the soon-to-be-elected government. “Such decisions must be taken by a democratically elected government, not by an unelected administration,” Abdullah stated.

Tarigami, a senior CPI(M) leader, echoed Abdullah’s sentiments, arguing that these orders undermine the spirit of democracy. He called for a suspension of all major decisions until the new government is in place, ensuring that the incoming leadership has a say in policy formulation. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are eagerly waiting for an elected government. Any decision taken now will not reflect their aspirations,” Tarigami asserted.

Both leaders emphasized the need for the administration to respect democratic norms and allow the process of government formation to proceed without undue interference. They urged political parties to unite in opposition to these directives, stressing the importance of maintaining the democratic ethos of the region.
