Baramulla:- May 9:Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Uri sector as Pakistan’s targeted bombardment claimed the life of a woman and injured four others, forcing thousands of families to abandon their homes amidst intense shelling over the past several days.

In one of the deadliest overnight ceasefire violations, a woman identified as Nargis Bashir lost her life when a projectile struck a vehicle near Mohura. She was traveling with her family from Razarwani village to escape the relentless shelling when the attack occurred. Nargis died on the spot, while three of her relatives sustained injuries and were shifted to GMC Baramulla for treatment.

Another civilian was reportedly injured in Thajal village due to ongoing shelling, bringing the total number of injured to four.

Local residents of Uri said that Pakistani shells landed in multiple border villages, including Mohura, Gingal, and Rampur. Gingal witnessed significant damage, with at least ten homes reportedly destroyed. Residents described the shelling that began around 11 PM on Thursday and continued until 4 AM Friday as the most intense in recent memory.

"The past years were relatively peaceful, but this sudden escalation has thrown us into panic. We left everything behind to save our lives," said a local resident.

Earlier, nine people were reported killed and at least 30 others injured in LoC areas following the Indian Army's Sandor Operation, which targeted nine suspected terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Locals have expressed grave concern over the lack of bunkers and safety measures in these vulnerable areas. The absence of protective infrastructure has left civilians with little choice but to flee.

Thousands of families from the Uri region are now displaced, seeking shelter in safer locations as border tensions continue to escalate. Authorities have yet to announce any formal relief or rehabilitation plan for the affected population.

This surge in hostilities marks a serious setback to the ceasefire agreement that had brought relative peace to the LoC since early 2021.
