FIR Filed Against Sitharaman Over Electoral Bonds Allegation

In a startling development, an FIR has been filed against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman following complaints related to the highly debated electoral bonds scheme. The complainant has accused Sitharaman of committing extortion under the cover of the electoral bonds mechanism, alleging that she benefitted to the tune of over ₹8,000 crore.

The complaint, lodged at a local police station, claims that the finance minister used her position to channel funds through electoral bonds, ultimately resulting in significant financial gains. This is the first time such a serious allegation has been made against a high-ranking minister concerning the electoral bonds scheme.

Introduced in 2018, the electoral bonds scheme was intended to increase transparency in political donations. However, it has been mired in controversy, with critics arguing that it facilitates untraceable, anonymous donations, potentially leading to corruption.

The opposition has swiftly reacted to the news, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. “These allegations are extremely serious and need immediate attention,” said a senior leader from the Congress party.

Sitharaman has yet to issue a public statement regarding the FIR. Her office, however, has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, insisting that all procedures related to the electoral bonds scheme have been followed as per the law. The case is expected to further escalate in the coming days as calls for transparency and accountability grow louder.
