Himachal Pradesh Records 6.48% Decline in Road Accidents in 2024

Accidents and deaths have significantly reduced in Himachal Pradesh during the year 2024, a government press release showed recently. 


Road accidents in the state have seen a 6.48 per cent decrease from the last year 2023. As many as 2,107 accidents were reported in 2024 compared to 2,253 in 2023.


Fatalities also decreased significantly, with 806 deaths in 2024 compared to 892 in the previous year. Injuries also decreased from 3,449 in 2023 to 3,290 in 2024.


Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu welcomed the development and collaboration between the state government, law enforcement agencies, and people. 


"The decline in road accidents and fatalities is a testament to the collective efforts of the Government, the law enforcement agencies, and awakened citizens. Over the past two years, the State Government has undertaken several initiatives to save valuable lives," he said.


The state government has undertaken focused awareness campaigns to promote responsible driving and safety measures in accident-prone areas.


For the unversed, India witnessed nearly 1.73 lakh deaths and about 4.63 lakh injuries from road accidents, which worked out to an average of 474 fatalities per day or one life lost every three minutes. Official data for 2024 at the national level is yet to be released.


"While the decline in road accidents and fatalities is encouraging, even a single life lost on our roads is one too many. We will continue to prioritize road safety and implement innovative measures to further reduce accidents in the coming years".
