Historic Day in J&K: Voting Begins for First Phase of Assembly Polls After a Decade

Voting for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has begun, marking a historic moment for the region. The last assembly elections in J&K were held a decade ago, making today's polling a significant milestone in the region's democratic process.

Polling booths across 16 constituencies opened early in the morning, with voters turning out in large numbers. Security measures have been tightened across all polling stations to ensure peaceful elections.

This is the first time Jammu and Kashmir is going to the polls after the abrogation of Article 370, which revoked the region’s special status. Many political observers view this election as a crucial test for political parties, including the BJP, Congress, and regional parties, as they seek to win over a diverse electorate.

Chief Election Officer, Rajiv Kumar, expressed optimism about a smooth voting process, noting the enthusiasm of the people to participate in shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir. Early reports suggest a steady voter turnout, with people from all age groups stepping out to cast their ballots.

With eyes across the nation on J&K, this election holds immense significance for both the region and the country. Counting of votes for the first phase will take place next week, and political parties are already gearing up for the subsequent phases of the election.
