History Won’t Forget: Sibal Targets VP Dhankhar

Senior opposition leader Kapil Sibal has launched a sharp attack on Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar, following the opposition’s no-confidence motion against him. Sibal accused Dhankhar of compromising the sanctity of parliamentary democracy by failing to ensure a level playing field for all members. His remarks came after heated debates over Dhankhar’s alleged partiality towards the ruling party during crucial legislative discussions.

Sibal’s statement, “History will never forgive those who deny fairness,” reflects the growing frustration among opposition leaders. The no-confidence motion, largely symbolic due to the ruling party’s majority, was aimed at highlighting what the opposition termed “unparliamentary behavior” by Dhankhar.

Critics argue that Dhankhar’s conduct has increasingly leaned in favor of the government, often stifling dissenting voices in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition members, including Sibal, claimed that such actions undermine democratic principles and erode public trust in the country’s highest legislative institutions.

Supporters of the Vice President, however, dismissed these allegations as baseless. They argued that Dhankhar has consistently acted within the framework of his constitutional duties, ensuring the smooth functioning of the house amid disruptions.

The debate over Dhankhar’s role reflects the broader divide between the government and opposition, with each side accusing the other of subverting democratic norms. As the political battle intensifies, Sibal’s scathing critique underscores the opposition’s determination to challenge what they perceive as growing authoritarianism in governance.
