External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is set to lead the Indian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Islamabad, according to an official announcement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The event, scheduled for later this year, marks a significant moment in the region’s geopolitical landscape, as it brings together key players from Central Asia, Russia, China, and South Asia.

The decision for Jaishankar to represent India at the summit comes amidst ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, making this a notable development in diplomatic relations. It will be the first high-level visit from India to Pakistan in recent years, underscoring the importance of the SCO platform in promoting regional cooperation and dialogue.

During the summit, key discussions are expected to revolve around security cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, regional trade, and connectivity. India's participation in the SCO continues to be essential as it provides a forum to address regional concerns and build strategic alliances.

Analysts believe Jaishankar’s presence at the summit could help strengthen India’s position on various global issues while fostering collaboration with neighboring nations. It also opens up the possibility of addressing bilateral issues with Pakistan on the sidelines, although no formal meetings between Indian and Pakistani leaders have been confirmed.

The summit will also be attended by top leaders from Russia, China, and other SCO member states, making it a vital event for international diplomacy in the region.
