Kashmir Campus Prepares for Snowy Break

The Central University of Kashmir has officially announced its winter vacation, scheduled to begin on December 23. The decision comes as the region prepares to face the severe cold that characterizes Kashmir’s winter season. The vacation will allow students and faculty alike to retreat to their homes and escape the freezing temperatures that often disrupt routine campus activities.

This announcement has been met with mixed reactions. While many students welcome the break, others have expressed concerns about the possible disruption of academic schedules and the postponement of critical assignments. Faculty members have highlighted the challenge of balancing curriculum completion with the extended holiday.

Winter in Kashmir is not just about snow-laden landscapes; it often brings with it logistical challenges, including power outages and transport disruptions. The university administration, in a statement, emphasized that the vacation is in the best interest of the campus community’s safety and well-being.

However, some critics argue that the institution should have considered alternative measures, such as online classes, to ensure academic continuity. “Winter is predictable in Kashmir. Why can’t the university plan better?” questioned a student on social media.

The vacation, despite the criticisms, is expected to be a time for relaxation and family reunions. Students from far-off areas have already started planning their journeys home, bracing for the snow-covered routes that await them.

As the university shuts its doors for the season, the lingering question remains: should academic institutions in Kashmir develop a long-term strategy to tackle winter-related disruptions more effectively?
