Kashmir Marathon Hopes for Global Fame: CM Omar Abdullah

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed optimism that the Kashmir Marathon could gain global fame, drawing athletes and tourists from around the world. Speaking at a recent press conference, he emphasized that the event not only celebrates fitness but also showcases Kashmir's natural beauty and cultural richness, elements he believes can attract international attention.

Abdullah noted that the marathon has already seen significant local participation, with increasing numbers of runners from other Indian states. He believes that, with the right promotion and infrastructure improvements, the event can evolve into a prestigious marathon on par with those held in Boston, London, or Tokyo.

"The Kashmir Marathon is more than a race; it's a chance to change perceptions. People need to see the real Kashmir—its warmth, hospitality, and stunning landscapes," he said. According to Abdullah, the marathon serves as an opportunity for Kashmir to reclaim its image as a peaceful and scenic destination, a narrative often overshadowed by political unrest.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for better infrastructure, such as improved roads and lodging facilities, to accommodate international participants and visitors. He also suggested collaborations with global sports organizations and sponsors to elevate the event's status.

In his closing remarks, Abdullah stated, “With collective effort, we can make this marathon a symbol of peace, unity, and resilience, attracting runners from across the globe and putting Kashmir on the world map of sporting events.”
