Omar Meets LG Sinha, Stakes Claim for Government Formation in J&K

National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah today met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar to stake his claim for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar presented letters of support from the NC, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M), and several Independent legislators.

Speaking to the media after his meeting, Omar said: “I submitted the letters of support and requested the LG to provide a date for the oath-taking ceremony. As Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory governed by the Centre, the process will take a few days, with the final decision coming from Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Home Ministry in Delhi.”

The National Conference later confirmed on 'X' that the formal process for revoking President’s Rule in the UT had started. “If all goes as planned, the oath ceremony will take place by Wednesday,” the NC stated.

Earlier in the day, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress Party held a Legislature Party meeting in Srinagar, where they formally extended their support to the NC. Despite the Congress’s disappointing performance, winning only six seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections, the NC swept the region, securing 42 seats and garnering additional support from four Independent legislators, increasing their tally to 46.

The NC-Congress alliance is set to hold further meetings tomorrow as the parties prepare to form the next government.
