Opposition Targets Dhankar  

The opposition-led INDIA bloc has announced its decision to table a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, citing allegations of favoritism and compromising parliamentary impartiality. This move marks a significant escalation in the friction between the opposition and the government during the current session of Parliament.  

Leaders of the INDIA bloc argue that Dhankar’s handling of debates and decisions in the Upper House shows a clear inclination toward the ruling party, jeopardizing the sanctity of democratic discussions. Opposition leaders, including prominent Congress and TMC members, have criticized Dhankar for allegedly suppressing dissenting voices and ignoring their concerns about key national issues.  

Sources within the opposition camp revealed that the motion is not just about specific instances of bias but a larger protest against what they describe as a "systematic erosion of democratic values" in Parliament. "The Rajya Sabha Chairman must be above partisanship, ensuring equal opportunity for all voices to be heard. Unfortunately, Dhankar has failed in this regard," stated a senior opposition leader.  

The government has dismissed these accusations, terming them baseless and politically motivated. BJP spokespersons argue that the opposition’s move reflects their inability to accept procedural discipline and parliamentary norms.  

The INDIA bloc’s strategy has sparked intense political debate, with both sides gearing up for a fiery confrontation in the Rajya Sabha. Whether the motion succeeds or not, it is poised to highlight the deepening divide between the opposition and the ruling coalition.
