Pending Payments to be Settled by December-End, Easing Pressure on Empanelled Hospitals
Relief for Hospitals: J&K Government Promises Payment Clearance
Hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir struggling with delayed payments are set to receive long-awaited financial relief as the government announced plans to clear all pending dues by December 2024. This assurance follows mounting pressure from healthcare providers, who have repeatedly flagged operational challenges caused by the delays.
The payments, mostly owed to hospitals empanelled under government healthcare schemes, have been in limbo for months, forcing some institutions to scale down operations. This has adversely affected patient care, especially in rural and underprivileged regions.
Officials confirmed that a dedicated task force has been deployed to expedite the auditing and disbursal process. “We understand the difficulties faced by hospitals. Our goal is to ensure a smooth flow of funds by December,” a senior official from the Health Department stated.
While the announcement has brought some relief, hospital administrators remain cautious. “We’ve heard similar assurances before. This time, we hope the government delivers on its promise,” remarked Dr. Parvez Ahmad, director of a Srinagar-based hospital.
Critics argue that the delay in payments highlights deeper systemic issues within the administration. Questions are being raised about bureaucratic inefficiency and its impact on public health. Opposition leaders have urged the government to implement measures ensuring timely payments in the future.
For patients, this news is a mixed blessing. While the promise of funds brings hope, the real question remains—will this resolve recurring payment issues, or is it another stopgap solution?
