"Return Home, My Son": Fathers' Plea for Peace in North Kashmir's Sopore

Aadil Abdullah

Baramulla, Oct 01: In a heartfelt plea for peace, two fathers from Bath Kalan, Sopore, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Bilal's father, have publicly urged their sons, currently involved in militant activities, to surrender and reintegrate into mainstream society.

Ghulam Hassan Mir, father of militant Mohammad Umar Mir, made an emotional appeal, saying, "If you are out there anywhere, please come back and surrender. Rejoin the mainstream and lead a peaceful life. If you are far from us, then settle down where you are, get married, and build your own family. Let us live in peace as well."

Expressing his sorrow, Ghulam Hassan added, "My son has gone astray, or perhaps someone has misled him. But I appeal to him once again: come back and live a normal life."

He also stressed the importance of democratic participation, stating, "Today, I exercised my democratic right and cast my vote because it's crucial for the future of our country. I urge others to do the same. Please vote and support the formation of a good government."

Similarly, Bilal's father made a desperate appeal to his son, urging him to return home and embrace a peaceful life. "My son, the path you have chosen is wrong. Please return home and settle down. Let us live in peace, and you too should live peacefully. I appeal to you once again: come back. If returning is not possible, at least settle down elsewhere and live a peaceful life," he implored.

Both fathers also encouraged their community to participate in elections, emphasizing the need to elect representatives and contribute to the country's progress. Their appeals highlight the immense pain and suffering faced by families impacted by militancy and reflect their hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
